Washington State's updated hazing law, also known as “Sam’s Law” after Sam Martinez, a freshman WSU student who died from alcohol poisoning while pledging Alpha Tau Omega fraternity in 2019, went into effect June 9, 2022. The law includes requirements around hazing prevention and reduction at institutions of higher education.
In compliance with Sam’s Law, fraternities and sororities at Washington universities must provide notice of the previous five years of all findings of violations of anti-hazing policies, state or federal laws relating to hazing, alcohol, drugs, sexual assault, or physical assault, or the institutions code of conduct against the local chapter on their websites.
